What are these qualifications?
These qualifications have been developed to meet the new Qualified Supervisors technical competence requirements due to come into force from the 6th April 2013. There are five different routes satisfying the requirements for registration as a Qualified Supervisor for Dwellings. For those choosing the qualification route, this suite facilitates learners to meet the minimum technical competence criteria.

EAL Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings (QCF)
This qualification meets the minimum qualification level for Qualified Supervisors responsible for electrical work in domestic properties subject to Part P of the Building Regulations (England and Wales).

EAL Level 3 Award In Approving Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings in Compliance with Building Regulations (QCF)
This qualification is applicable to those individuals who already hold a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) (QCF).
(Learners may wish instead to undertake the Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations instead see route 3 on the EAS Scheme Document).
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Centres should disseminate to the learners the requirements for the registration of Qualified Supervisors as given in Appendix 4 of the EAS document, which can be downloaded free from the IET www.theiet.org/eas. This is to ensure the learner undertakes the correct qualification as applicable.
Who are these qualifications for?
Those who want to become Qualified Supervisors responsible for electrical work in domestic properties subject to Part P of the Building Regulations (England and Wales).
They are intended for those who carry out electrical work in association with, or for their main work activity, and wish to be nominated as a ‘Qualified Supervisor’ with a Competent Persons Scheme. Registration with such a scheme will enable self certification of domestic electrical installation work to the Building Regulations

These qualifications are not intended for learners who have no previous electrical experience.

(Prior to undertaking the qualification units the learner must provide auditable evidence that demonstrates they have the relevant understanding and/or experience of the principles, procedures and practices for installing electrotechnical systems and equipment in dwellings).
What do these qualifications cover?
Each qualification covers the relevant aspects appropriate the learner’s chosen qualification route to becoming a Qualified Supervisor for Dwellings.
